The Anointing Sacrament

The Anointing Sacrament

In the Orthodox Church there are two sacraments combined in one ordinance: straight after the christening service, the anointing that makes a person meet the Holy Spirit takes place. Whilst saying the words: “seal of the gift of the Holy Spirit. Amen”, the priest anoints the forehead, eyes, nostrils, lips, ears, chest, hands, and legs of the christened. The anointing oil is a special aromatic oil which is blessed by the leader in charge of the church – the Patriarch.
